"Les Miserables" had a royal premiere in Tokyo this week, where its Australian star Hugh Jackman walked the red carpet at the charity gala.
In the audience at the Tuesday night screening was Japanese Crown Prince
Naruhito, who sat next to Jackman as the movie unfolded. The film, set
to open Christmas Day in the U.S., also stars Anne Hathaway, Russell

The company (Fandango) has announced that Les Miserables has become not only the #1 advanced ticket-seller among all Christmas Day releases (beating out 2009's Sherlock Holmes), but it is also now become the #1 advanced ticket-seller among all musicals (beating out 2006's Dreamgirls). The most recent statistics show that Hooper's film is currently making up 40% of the site's sales, beating out The Hobbit which stands at 32%. New Trailer for BROKEN CITY Starring Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe
20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for director Allen Hughes’ (The Book of Eli) political thriller Broken City. The film stars Mark Wahlberg as a private detective who is hired to identify the lover of a powerful
politician’s wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones), with Russell Crowe
playing the shady politician. This trailer focuses quite a bit more on
the film’s plot, teasing an enticing power play between Wahlberg and
Crowe’s characters. We also see a bit more of Zeta-Jones’ character,
though her intentions aren’t entirely made clear. The real draw,
though, seems to the face-off between Wahlberg and Crowe, and I’m eager

Russell was desperate to win the part as soon as he heard the film was in the pipeline and was reportedly willing to do anything to secure it. He had to show off his vocal skills in front of many of those involved with the production, which was daunting. 'Broken City' Second Trailer: Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg Clash
The premise for the film is familiar in that it’s a genre picture. Wahlberg plays a cop hired by the mayor (Crowe) to see if the mayor’s wife (Zeta-Jones) is having an affair, but that’s just where things get interesting. Fighting against corruption, Wahlberg must become the lone wolf who finds redemption and the truth in his pursuit to get out from under Crowe’s thumb. Paco (Delgado, costume designer) explained it wasn't just the women who were challenging to find shoes for. Hugh Jackman had a strange costume request for "wooden clogs" that he insisted he wore on set.

Hugh Jackman's performance as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables was recognised with a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture (which also included Russell Crowe). Hollywood has a special way of dealing with height
Hugh Jackman has shown great range on the screen and stage. But at 6-3, his stature required producers of the “X-Men” movie series to revamp the character of Wolverine. According to comic books, Wolverine stands 5-3. Jackman is almost a whole foot taller. Russell Crowe recently revealed that he was the first choice for Wolverine. Casting Crowe, who bowed out and recommended Jackman, also would have required tweaking Wolverine; he‘s 5-11½. (TribLive)

There was no embargo on the after-party at Porter House, attended by almost the entire cast, including Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne. He wasn’t doing a lot of movies at the time.
HUGHES
: We had a heavy who is part King Of New York,
part Gordon Gekko. It was a challenge to get Russell. We knew we needed
a movie star, but Russell’s a different kind of movie star: he’s also a
great fucking actor, you know. And there are all these legendary
stories about Russell, so I was anxious to sit down with him and see how
we would jell. We sat down and I saw the way his mind was working, the
zone he was in as he was just getting into crazy physical shape. We went
a few rounds and we were so clearly on the same page. There was a
kinship there I didn’t expect. And the idea of teaming him with Mark
Wahlberg had both of us excited.
DEADLINE: I’ve heard that Russell challenges his directors. True?
HUGHES: I found Russell to be very much like Denzel Washington was on Book Of Eli.
As their director, you better know your shit and know what the fuck
you’re talking about. You better be on your shit, every day, know what
you’re doing all the time and have a point of view. He respects that. If
you’re not coming with your A-game and you don’t have a point of view,
you’re going to get obliterated. So I didn’t have that problem with him.
Wait until you see his performance, man. It is an actor’s actor
performance. My man is in a zone right now, and you could see it from

There were nods throughout the session to Jackman as Wolverine and Crowe's turn in "Gladiator," a subtle tell that the idea of seeing actors in new guises will be a cornerstone of the movie’s campaign. Perhaps anticipating some skepticism, Hooper went to some lengths to describe Crowe’s singing background and why he cast the bearded one. “Who am I going to cast to get the better of Wolverine?” he said. “It's a short list and Russell was right on the top."
